What Makes Up a Goliath Bet?
As we explained right at the top of this guide, a Goliath bet is made up of 247 different lines and includes the following:
- 28 doubles
- 56 trebles
- 70 four-folds
- 56 five-folds
- 28 six-folds
- Eight seven-folds
- One eight-fold accumulator
In order to first qualify for a Goliath bet, the first thing you need to do is select eight different selections.
There is no other multiple bet that contains as many different combinations, but due to the fact that there aren’t any single bets in the Goliath construct, a minimum of two selections need to be predicted correctly in order for a profit to be returned.
A Goliath Bet - A Few Winning Examples
Let’s create a scenario for our Goliath bet where we have picked eight different horses - Horse 1, Horse 2, Horse 3, Horse 4, Horse 5, Horse 6, Horse 7 and Horse 8.
After all eight horses have run, let’s say that the first five horses were all winners, but horses 6, 7 and 8 were losers.
As five of our horses were winners, this is great news as we would win a plethora of doubles, trebles, four folds as well as one five fold. However, because horses 6, 7 and 8 didn’t win, the six folds, seven folds and the one eight fold bet can’t possibly happen and will be classed as losing parts of the bet.
With five horses being successful, it is likely that the returns we make will cover our stake and we should see a profit, however, if only two, three or four of our selections were to win we could end up losing money.
If for example only two of our eight horses were winners, the only bets we could land would be a double. Any of the remaining trebles, four folds, five folds, six folds, seven folds and the eightfold would all be losers and there is a huge chance that with only two winners, we would struggle to cover our stake.
What happens if only one of our eight selections ends up being a winner?
If only one of your selections ends up being a winner, then every single bet in your Goliath will be a loser.
What happens if every selection is a winner?
If all eight of your predictions are guessed correctly then you will be laughing all the way to the bank, as every one of the 247 different lines will be hit and your bet will see a massive return.
What Do I Need to be Prepared to Stake in My Goliath?
As a Goliath contains 247 different lines when it comes to preparing your wager, you need to multiply your base unit by 247. Every line within a Goliath needs to have the same wager applied to it. Therefore, if you wanted to bet £1 for every line, you would need to bet this across every one of the 247 different lines which would mean your final bet would tally £247.
If you wanted to make that bet cheaper and bet just £0.50 per line your bet total would still be £123.50.
If you bet just 10p per line, your bet would still total £24.70.
Just like in every other bet, the more you stake the higher your potential returns. However, it must be stressed that when making a Goliath bet only those who can afford to place larger bets should think about placing one as they can be very expensive wagers.
How are the Odds for a Goliath Calculated?
The odds for the various lines in a Goliath bet are calculated by multiplying the different odds together to produce an individual total. Once all of the totals from all of the winning combinations have been added up, this will result in you being able to see what your overall Goliath bet has returned.
Remember the only way that you can win the maximum amount from your Goliath bet is if all eight selections are predicted correctly.
Famous Goliath Bets
The start of 2024 saw one shrewd horse racing punter land £23,000 from a Goliath bet after all eight horses that he selected won their respective races. Betting just 9p across his 247 betting lines, the punter bet just £22.23 but the Goliath saw him win over 1000x the amount.
As explained at the top of this guide, if you can correctly predict all eight selections, you should find yourself in for a windfall, no matter what you choose to stake.
